Dan Wozniak - Fairfax City Council
My mission is Connect One Fairfax. As a Council Member, my objective is to represent the entire community. I will prioritize efforts that will benefit the greatest number of residents, while also ensuring responsible fiscal management.
About Me
Born and raised in Iowa, I am employed as a Director of Marketing for Hibu. My family - comprising my wife Staci and our four children, Jordan, Peyton, Aran, and Ridley - relocated to Fairfax in the Heartland Heights neighborhood. We quickly became enamored with the city's charming small-town atmosphere. We're excited to live close to Staci's father and my parents, who also call Fairfax home. In my free time, I love spending time with my family and playing any sport I can get in front of. I also love volunteering and participating in Fairfax's exceptional events and activities.
I previously served as the Chair of the Board of Adjustment, actively involved in the decision-making process and ensuring adherence to regulations. With dedication, I will represent you in our City Council, closely aligning with common direction and addressing the needs of our citizens."
Vision
Promote Fairfax's growth by building intelligently and balanced
Address the intersection of Hwy 151 and 80th St
Add B2C businesses along the Hwy 151 and 80th corridor
Promote project bidding to reduce costs, increase productivity, and maintain quality
Reduce city spending by having projects and costs stand alone and be in context
Address wage and rate increases occurring year-over-year
Work towards adding a Fairfax Police Department
Revamp website for ease of locating information
Approach
Make decisions in the context of other projects; no decisions in a silo.
Introduce more communication methods to promote transparency and open doors
Continually ask Fairfax residents priority items and pain points
Require the City Managers to provide P&L documents, or equivalent, for any new or revised proposal
Record all City Meetings open to the public and promote more interaction with residents
Planned Actions
Aggressively find retail B2C/storefront businesses to populate Highway 151 and 80th Street. Finding businesses that reduce travel to Cedar Rapids is the primary goal. In addition to smaller shops, find one or two restaurants including fast food close to the intersection. This business is not only great for Fairfax residents but also for those passing through all while contributing to Fairfax.
Implement promises including, but not limited to, the park at Heartland Heights as well as the trail around the Western lake in Heartland Heights. These are large projects, but work can begin sooner.
Reduce costs within the City.
Require all new proposals to have a pseudo P&L document that will display contribution for the project back to the City; not all endeavors will result in positive cash flow, but the exercise should be completed and the result taken in context with other items happening in the City.
Question and require proof of spending for all recurring costs and payments. In order to find wasteful or neglected spending, questioning older projects is warranted.
Request all projects to have multiple bids to start work. Any City employee with a relationship (family/friend) should not be involved in the process whether that be voting or decisions. Project bidding will expand to all aspects including consultant and engineering work.
Require all projects, decisions, and discussions to happen with context to those they impact and what they impact. This will avoid small spending in many areas that add up over time and avoid having decisions that do not impact the community in the most beneficial manner desired.
Transparency will be a focus through recordings of meetings, open dialogue with residents, and better documentation of decisions and plans.
